Andrew Powers

Andrew Powers is a science content specialist and executive assistant at SLTI. Since joining SLTI in August of 2007, Mr. Powers has reviewed science items for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), rated candidate responses for an ELL field test, helped to write and revise reports for SLTI client companies, provided computer technical support, and managed various administrative responsibilities within SLTI.

Mr. Powers’ professional areas of interest include construct validity assurance in standardized science and math exams through linguistic simplification; and writing high-quality science items that are aligned with national and state standards.

Prior to working at SLTI, Mr. Powers taught AP, Honors, and ESOL Biology at the high school level and also middle school science. In addition to his teaching experience, Mr. Powers worked in the biotech industry.

This combination of content area expertise and educational experience make Mr. Powers a valuable resource to the testing community. Furthermore, his volunteer work includes tutoring and instructing with the Literacy Council of Montgomery County and the Spanish Catholic Center. Mr. Powers earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and his Master’s degree in Science Education from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.
